Instant Pumpkin Flower Pakoras (Kumro Phool Bhaja)

Pumpkin plant has large size yellow flowers as you can see in below gallery . Pumpkin plant has separate male and female flowers.You can easily identify it , female flower has a tiny pumpkin (see image below) at the base of it while Male pumpkin flowers without tiny pumpkin and little bigger then female flowers, that is why we only pick the male flowers to cook and eat. Male flower usually died and drop out from the plant by afternoon , it is better to pluck the fresh flowers by early morning and Leave the female flowers to grow into a  pumpkin. Pumpkin Flowers have a lovely sweet mild flavor. Pick them early in the morning when they are in full bloom.  Place in a zip-lock bag or polly-bag and keep in the refrigerator to keep it fresh.
Pumpkin flower pakora or bhaja is very tasty and very popular in the West Bengal and Odissa. Now  make pakoda with pumpkin flowers which is called  Kumro Phool Bhaja or boda in Bengal and Kakharu Phula Bhaja in Odisha. Pumpkin Flower Pakoras  is  not only quick recipe but, can be easily made at home. Generally it is served with kichdi or plain rice . It is very tasty to eat, very quick and easy to prepare.   •  Pumpkin flower (kakharu phula) - 10 no
  • Rice flour - 4 tbsp
  • Gram flour (besan) - 2 tbsp *
  • Red chilli powder - 1tsp
  • Green Chopped Chilli
  • White Poppy seeds - 1tbsp *
  • White Sesame  (til) - 1tbsp *
  • Oil for frying
  • Salt as required
  • Water
  • Chaat Masala *
* Optional Method:
  •  Wash and clean the pumpkin flowers, remove the  sepals.
  • In a mixing bowl, add besan, rice flour, chilli powder, poppy seeds,Sesame seeds,salt and mix well.
  • Add water little by little to make a batter.
  • Heat oil in pan to smoking point then turn down heat.
  • Dip each  flower in the batter and deep fry till it turns golden brown. **
  • In the same procedure make all the pakoras.
  • Serve with kichdi or plain rice or your choise how you want to eat :) .
Tips: You can spread chaat masala on pumpkin flower bhaja.   ** You can fill one flower within a flower to make pakora heavy ,and it will give more flavor. So you can make one pakora using 2 or 3 flowers depends how many flowers growing in your garden :).
